You Will Be There

È una serie di autoritratti che esplorano questioni su identità, sessualità e ruolo di genere, dove prendo in esame la relazione tra me e gli altri in un contesto intimo, allo stesso tempo privato e pubblico, aprendo un dialogo su razza, genere, gioco di ruolo, seduzione, desiderio e accettazione. Fotografandomi e mostrandomi nudo, tento di affrontare la mia stessa insicurezza e vulnerabilità, attraverso indagini personali che mi portano ad accettare il mio corpo e il suo potere. Ogni immagine nasce da un’idea di me stesso e del mondo.

Fare questi ritratti è un'esperienza personale, un viaggio in uno strato complesso in cui l'identità è vista, giudicata, ma raramente discussa. Rivela il mio desiderio personale di apertura e ricerca per capire non solo chi e cosa sono, ma come il mondo mi capisce, mi guarda e mi giudica.

Questo progetto non è solo una risposta personale al desiderio di comprendere me stesso, ma rappresenta anche una ricerca più ampia e universale di un luogo di appartenenza.

Ohm Phanphiroj

Is an international award-winning photographer, filmmaker, and educator. Ohm’s works deal with controversial issues including sexuality, identity, gender roles, human mistreatment, exploitation, and the contemporary male nude. A former fashion director at Esquire and Qr magazine, Ohm’s professional experiences include his work as a gallery director, fashion photographer, filmmaker, legal consultant, and a professor.

Ohm holds six graduate degrees: an MFA in Film, Video, New Media, Animation from the Art Institute of Chicago; an MFA in Imaging Arts from Rochester Institute of Technology; an MFA in Photography from Memphis College of Art; an MA in Filmmaking from Georgia State University; an MA in Communication from the University of Northern Iowa; and a law degree from Thammasat University, Thailand.

Ohm has participated in more than one hundred exhibitions internationally, including the Verona Grenze Arsenal Fotografici 2018, Iran Biennale 2016, Moscow Biennale 2014, Noorderlicht International Photo Festival 2012, Sommerblut Art Festival 2011, Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art, The Kinsey Institute, Bangkok Cultural Museum, Tally Beck Contemporary of Art, and H Gallery.

Ohm’s Underage project has received many international prestigious awards, including fellowships from Art Institute of Chicago, Columbia College Chicago, Lightwork, Newspace Center for Photography; Nikon-Noor Photography Award, Sony World Photography Award, Epson, Critical Mass, and Society for Photographic Education.

Ohm’s works are in the permanent collection at the Kinsey Institute, Lesley-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian, Syracuse University, Savannah College of Art, Indiana University, Emory University, Georgia State University, The School of Art Institute of Chicago, and in private collections throughout the world.

Currently, Ohm is an adjunct professor of photography at Edna Manley School of Visual and Performing Arts in Kingston, Jamaica. He is also working on a short film trilogy-The Space Between Us, The Deaf Boy’s Disease, and The Last Summer.
