Almost a Manifesto, from the Latin "manifestus", verbatim "taken with the hand", caught red-handed, in the act.

Hands drawn by AI: so ugly that become amazing. What if these ugly hands, which are in some way the stylistic signature of AI – the consistency of AI while drawing hands is unbelievable – are not a bug, but a feature?

The focus of our research is not on hands at all, but on our relationship with technology, as human beings, the all-too-human faculty of determining a subversive détournement on given things, escaping the prisons of normative thinking, opening portals everywhere, finding the beauty of imperfection, embracing diversity.

Therefore, let's bring the Flaw to the center of the composition, exalt the system glitches, let the AI be itself and not a semantic misunderstanding, transform the error into a signature, and delegate to the human the task of interpretation, which is his own. This is an aesthetic task, intended as the opposite of un-esthetic, as the opposite of that art/sign that already tells you everything you need to know, despising your mental qualities, anesthetizing you!

Therefore, hooray for not-five-fingered hands! Because you are looking at the sixth finger rather than the moon that is being pointed to! And when someone will fix the bug one day, there will be no fingers left to point to anything.

We invite all artists out there interested in AI "bugs" as a sublime form of art to join our research. Come forward below, embrace the flaw: don't fix it!

BLACK7EVEN

In my works everything starts with the auditory sphere, being a long time musician, putting the sound at the core of every creative outburst, so inverting the usual perspective in visual art, changing the way the results in the end appear.

Currently my interest as a sound artist is aimed to experimental electronic music, mainly made by a modular synthesiser, but also hardware synths expanders (with no keyboard), sampling (as in microsound and granular synthesis), softwares as MaxMSP/Jitter and other amenities of that kind.

As a crypto artist I decided to develop my sound vision by implementing the visual part. Soon the two sides (audio and video) of my works became one single entity. This desire was in nuce in lots of my late works as a live musician with live visuals, both generated by me and my machines.

After long time spent in the art world, after years spent on electronic music live improvisation combined with generative video performance, I decided in the beginning of 2021 to start with a new adventure in my life, following the path of the growing cryptoart scene, a new path on my way to the exploration of creativity, finally giving life to several ideas I had in mind and never developed until then.

Actually, I see BLACK7EVEN as a "virtual artist" project run by me and my machines. A sort of biotech duo. The focus of the project is about glitches, errors, randomness, everything that is generally tagged as "wrong", and all those weirdness that make me feel alive and free in a more and more standardised and enslaved world. To me, art was from the beginning a form of self-therapy against the discomfort and the refusal caused by the human beings. My artworks live in the deep groove between the society and my feelings about it. Being unable to detach myself from that abyss, I decided to start decorating the place.

Yet – if you can see/hear it – there is always some kind of strongly glowing light deep inside my works, that is the hope for the immense power of creativity intelligence, the only true unique feature of mankind, the only cure to consciously reach freedom. So I always hope my art can heal something on this little hell in which we have sunk.

In the end, I'm not a visual artist, I'm not a sound artist, I'm not a wannabe artist, I’m not even a complete artist. I never would. I'm just an old artist and still you can find me on the line, loving to surf on this mad crypto space. My IRL name is Vincenzo Scorza.

Quasi un Manifesto, dal latino “manifestus” inteso come “preso con le mani”, colto in flagrante.

Mani disegnate dall’intelligenza artificiale (AI): è incredibile osservarne la fermezza con la quale vengono disegnate e affascinante la bruttura del risultato. E se queste mani così imperfette e lontane dalla realtà, non rappresentassero un difetto ma una caratteristica?

Non sono le mani ad essere al centro della nostra ricerca, ma il rapporto che intercorre tra l’essere umano e la tecnologia. Il focus è la capacità tutta umana di sovvertire l’ovvio, di fuggire dalla prigione del pensiero normativo per aprire nuovi portali, ovunque, per trovare la bellezza dell’imperfezione e abbracciare la diversità.

Portiamo dunque, ed esaltiamo, il Difetto all’interno delle nostre composizioni. Lasciamo che l’intelligenza artificiale sia sé stessa e non un equivoco semantico; trasformiamo il difetto in firma e lasciamo che questa venga interpretata dall’umano. Si tratta di un compito estetico come contrario di antiestetico, e a differenza di quell'arte che già ti dice tutto ciò che devi sapere, anestetizzando e disprezzando le tue qualità mentali.

Evviva quindi le mani imperfette, quella senza tutte e cinque le dita! Perché stai guardando al sesto dito anziché la luna che si sta indicando! E quando un giorno qualcuno correggerà questo difetto, ad indicare non rimarrà più nulla.

Invitiamo tutti gli artisti interessati alle imperfezioni dell’intelligenza artificiale a unirsi alla nostra ricerca. Fatevi avanti, abbracciate il difetto: consideratelo come forma di arte sublime e non correggetelo!

La sfera uditiva è il luogo dove tutti i miei lavori nascono. Sono un musicista di lunga data e il suono è al centro di ogni mio sfogo creativo. Musica e immagini si intersecano: mi allontano dall’approccio comune e cambio il modo in cui i risultati appaiono.

Il mio interesse come sound artist è rivolto alla musica elettronica sperimentale. Produco i miei pezzi utilizzando un sintetizzatore modulare e dispositivi simili quali: un expander senza tastiera, un campionatore (come nel microsound e nella sintesi granulare) e un software come MaxMSP/Jitter. Come artista crittografico, negli ultimi brani realizzo il mio desiderio di unire il sonoro al visivo e di creare pezzi in cui le immagini accompagnano le note e viceversa. Il tutto generato da me e dai miei strumenti.

Agli inizi del 2021, a seguito di un lungo periodo trascorso nel mondo dell'arte, decido di intraprendere un cammino diverso. Dopo anni dedicati all'improvvisazione live di musica elettronica combinata ad una performance visiva, mi unisco al crescente mondo della criptoarte: un mondo che mi permetterà di esplorare in maniera del tutto nuova la mia creatività e dove finalmente riuscirò a dare vita alle molte idee mai sviluppate fino a quel momento.

In realtà, vedo BLACK7EVEN come un "artista virtuale" coordinato da me e dai miei strumenti, una sorta di duo biotecnologico. I glitch, gli errori e la casualità sono il fulcro del progetto. Tutto ciò che generalmente viene etichettato come "sbagliato" ma che rappresenta per me un motivo per sentirmi vivo e libero da un mondo sempre più standardizzato e schiavizzato.

L’arte è stata fin dall'inizio una forma di autoterapia contro il disagio e il rifiuto sociale. Le mie opere vivono in un solco profondo che divide i mei sentimenti dalla società: un abisso dal quale non riesco ad uscire e che ho perciò deciso di decorare attraverso i miei lavori.

Eppure, se riuscite a vederla e/o ad ascoltarla, nel profondo delle mie opere c'è sempre una sorta di luce abbagliante. Un bagliore che rappresenta l’unica speranza dell'intelligenza creativa, l'unica vera caratteristica del genere umano e l'unica via per raggiungere la libertà. Spero quindi che la mia arte possa guarire le ferite causate da questo piccolo inferno in cui ci troviamo.

Non mi ritengo un’artista visivo e nemmeno un’artista sonoro. Non sono né un’aspirante artista e neppure un’artista completo. Non potrei mai. Sono solo un vecchio artista che ama navigare in questo folle spazio crittografico. Il mio nome nella vita reale è Vincenzo Scorza.
